Home Solutions EMV-Acquiring Host

Several years ago Visa, MasterCard and Europay rolled out a global initiative for making credit and debit payments using smart cards. Today known as the EMV standard, it defines many aspects of smart card deployment, including the visual appearance of a card, terminal hardware and software, personalisation, cryptography, transaction processing algorithms, etc. The rationale for EMV is straightforward – to significantly reduce costs of card fraud and improve security of card-based transactions. However, despite the rigid implementation deadlines set by the payment networks and all the benefits of adopting EMV standard, many banks are still at the planning stage as they find it technologically and financially challenging to migrate to the new system.

Taking these obstacles into account, Compass Plus has developed a number of low-cost, easy to implement EMV compliance solutions in order to simplify the EMV migration for banks. One of the solutions in this range is TranzWare EMV Acquiring Host that ensures a simple phased upgrade of the terminal network to accept EMV cards.

One of the solution’s unique and valuable features is that no replacement or upgrade is required to a bank’s existing processing facilities. Transactions generated by magnetic stripe cards are processed in the usual way and only the EMV transactions are processed by the new host. Such an implementation approach is enabled by unique Migration Techniques, which were specifically developed to support migration from obsolete host systems. This proven technique comprises a number of components including emulation features of the international payment networks (VISA-Net, EPS-Net) and parameterised switching features. Using such components eliminates the need to install a specialist host-to-host protocol or even reconfigure the existing host as the two hosts interact using the TranzWare emulations of the payment network interfaces supported by the bank's existing processing host.
