Home Solutions EMV-Issuing Host

A number of years ago Visa, MasterCard and Europay introduced a global initiative for making credit and debit payments using smart cards. Today known as the EMV standard, it defines many aspects of smart card deployment, including the visual appearance of a card, terminal hardware and software, personalisation, cryptography, transaction processing algorithms, etc. The rationale for EMV is straightforward –significant reduction in costs of card fraud and improvement in overall security of card-based transactions. However, despite all the worth of the EMV implementation and rigid deadlines set by payment networks, many banks find it technologically and budgetary challenging to adopt the standard.

In order to simplify the EMV migration for banks Compass Plus has developed a number of inexpensive EMV compliance solutions with affordability and ease of implementation as its prime design objectives. One of the solutions in this range is TranzWare EMV Issuing Host solution. It is designed to enable EMV transaction support by an issuing bank without replacing or performing any upgrades to the existing authorisation host; it does not even require a host-to-host interface to the EMV-compliant host.

TranzWare EMV Issuing Host performs EMV transaction authorisations as per the EMV specification making use of EMV-compatible HSMs. Transactions generated by magnetic stripe cards are routed to the existing authorisation host unmodified. Interaction with the existing host is achieved using payment systems interface emulation features within the TranzWare Migration Kit. The Kit was specifically developed to support migration from obsolete host solutions.

General Benefits

Improved security: data is stored more securely on a smart card contributing to a substantial reduction of fraud costs

More effective risk management: ability to update the data recorded on the chip even after the card has been issued, change transaction authorisation parameters and conditions according to card holder status and behaviour

Value-Added Applications: an issuer can use the EMV card chip to store other applications such as loyalty programs, identification applications, transport passes, etc.

Reduction in offline transaction processing costs
