 Not all areas of a payment system can be protected in a traditional way (e.g. by cryptography), where one of the most outstanding examples is remote banking. It is characterised by Card Not Present transactions, absence of a device that can perform cryptographic function and store cryptographic keys, as well as by data being transferred over public networks. Introducing cryptographic protection systems in this case is, although possible, still not completely secure, immobile, requires investing in certain software or even hardware from the customer's side and cannot be applied to phone banking.
TranzWare Secure Gateway was developed to specifically address these problems and as such, it offers a comprehensive multi-factor authentication without the use of soft and hardware on the user's side. An example of this approach can be a combination of a static password (something the user knows) and single-use passwords (dynamic passwords) list, known as TrAnsaction Numbers (TANs). This provides additional confidentiality and protection of information integrity for the users of phone and e-banking services. Of course performing such an authentication is usually impossible without significantly modifying the existing systems. Secure Gateway resolves this problem. Designed as a standalone, easily integrated product, it allows any client application (e.g. TranzWare Internet Banking - remote Internet banking solution or TranzWare Online FIMI - web interface to resources of a remote processing centre) to authenticate a user by means of freely combining different methods.
TranzWare Secure Gateway has an open and standardised interface based on SOAP over HTTP. The product allows a financial institution to design various customer authentication schemes or/and authorise transactions based on any combination of TANs, dynamic SMS passwords (using SMPP, although SMTP is also supported), Secure IDs and other technologies.
A personalisation (association of password lists, devices, etc. with a specific user) is performed by TranzWare CMS and/or TranzWare Card Factory. Such an approach makes personalisation of the additional authentication means similar to the card personalisation process and can be performed as a routine task. Alternatively, personalisation can be performed by any other application and transferred to Secure Gateway in an appropriate file format.
